The Borrowers

The Borrowers

I tracked them carefully through the darkened house.

They almost escaped; but tequila has a way of smoothing out all unreality. So when they shimmered and turned into the painting, my befuddled mind recalled the contents of half forgotten bedside tales and fixed my eyes on the point.

There! Resting my head against the canvas I saw them. They had stolen from me again. Enough! Deal with them. Grandma taught me how.

I transformed myself and entered the scene with them.

They looked up, scattering frantically as the shadow of my chosen avatar fell across them.

 “Nevermore!” I cawed angrily.

Great line. I had to read it three times to catch the "un-." Actually not sure which way works better.

A bit reminiscent of Charles Delint.

    Well done.

    1. Thanks!
It just sneaked in there from one of my more annoying conversational non-sequiters 'Tequila'll do that to you"
      Thanks for visiting

  2. LOVE THIS. All three prompts, juxtaposed against the literary pun of the title, AND a tip of the hat to my favorite short story author ever. So much pressed into 100 words, and fittingly so. Well done!

    1. Hi Angela

Loved the prompt photos. Thank you.
Not been able to squeeze in much writing recently - (new job), so I have been going mad today, the three photo challenge was just what I needed to jump start me again; then rushed off to add a few daft twitter fics!
