Blood Feud
“Wassup Dude?”
“I’m sequencing.”
“Cool! Love bangin’ tunes Man.”
“No. Sequencing genes.”
“Jean’s what? Never had you pegged for a
ladies’ man Bro.”
“Funny! It’s reclaimed genetic material; I’m
transferring it into this.”
“That ball?...”
“...Artificial womb... Egg...”
“...Whatever. Where d’you get the genetic stuff?”
“From dried blood. I propagated it.”
“Like Jurassic Park? Blood from amber?”
“No. From this chainmail.”
“Wow! D’you boost it?”
“Nope. Family heirloom. Ancestor died in battle. See? Ripped apart.”
“Eugh! You want to Frankenstein your
Granddad?”
“Hell no!”
“What you doin’ then?”
“I’m reviving our family profession in his
honour.”
“What’d he do?”
“Dragonslayer.”

Dragonslayer!! An honorable profession although a bit out of favor these days. Very unique take and done well. I liked the clueless guy, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Janet! I love little dialogue stories as it goes a long way if the people have distinct voices.
DeleteWow, so original! And, why not a dragonslayer? I sure didn't expect that one. Nice dialogue, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! Glad you liked it :-)
DeleteOkay...now that I've signed in I'll try this again. I'm sure there are many openings for a dragonslayer in today's job market. Interesting take on the prompt with fun dialogue. A little bit of Abbott and Costello in the lab. Who's on first...?
ReplyDeleteShalom,
Rochelle
It was all prompted by my first look at the picture. 'That loots like an egg... what would an egg that big be doing on someone's garage?' ... and we're off! Thanks for the great prompt and for hosting Friday Fictioneers.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bjorn!
ReplyDeletedragonslayer? better get the weapons ready before the egg successfully hatches. well done.
ReplyDeleteLoved the dragon slayer's descendant working to revive a dragon. Nothing like creating a niche for yourself. Delightful.
ReplyDeleteAloha,
Doug
Thanks Guys! I'm not sure that my protagonist has really thought this through!
ReplyDeletehaha, I'm not sure how I feel about bringing back the dragons, but I guess when the job market's like it is, there's a big incentive to create yourself a niche!
ReplyDeleteNice work on the dialogue story!
Thanks Jen. I really appreciate feedback from other writers.
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat dialogue!
